¡Proyecto Elevar!
A Tecnológico Bethel Scientific Laboratory
$15,546
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The largest and most prestigious university, Universidad de San Carlos, serving the populous areas of Guatemala City to its rural poor regions is the most sought-after university among student population. The university’s historical reputation is deeply rooted in the sciences and for student educations deriving from the rural poor it is producing less than favorable admission results due to lack of preparation for the rigorous entrance exams in these areas of study. Few educational institutions in these poor regions are adequately prepared to educate students with these foundational scientific practices in an environment that can expand learning beyond conceptual knowledge.
Further advancements to educate the poor as a developmental strategy requires implementation of key components that have been identified to promote and complement the needs of the community which at times can only be accomplished by the bold generosity of others to act to altering the revolutions of poverty that prevent them.
Having access to scientific laboratory practical space in a real-world tangible environment, outfitted with the tools and accessories, will begin to bridge the gap between current conceptual knowledge and the practical application of it; therefore, cultivating the mind towards the freedom of expression of learned skills with the needed preparations educational institutions place in high regard. In turn, we take another crucial step towards eliminating economic and equality boundaries of the poor while we fuel the positive ideals and perceptions that education fosters the progress we continue to message.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
In Guatemala, students are constant victims to economic hardship when it comes to education. Private university options come with many expenses that simply cannot be met. Most students, lured by free tuition to the country’s only state university, a student’s educational fate is determined by scores of the difficult series of formalized entrance exams. Overall results become a product of the educational environment they have been afforded or subjected to further separating those who are academically prepared and those who are not. This continues driving large economic and emotional gaps among students as well as highlighting minimal opportunities to be positioned to even compete.
This lack of educational preparation, not educational desire, demonstrates the global poverty cycle we are all working to eliminate. In the poor rural regions of this country, few educational centers due to lack of economic resources allow them to put into practice theoretical knowledge of chemistry, biology, and the sciences these institutions, Universidad de San Carlos included, require. It continues to be proven that current practices of science are not enough to fully understand these complexities and practical experience is essential for students in developing skills for foundational preparation to enter college. Therefore, it is imperative that students have access to well-equipped laboratories where they can conduct experiments and apply valuable theoretical concepts to provide developmental growth and to begin leveling the playing field among applying students from both the advantaged and disadvantaged.
PROBLEM ANALYSIS
Chemistry and biology are fundamental interactions of sciences that play a crucial role in our daily lives. It has applications in various fields such as medicine, agriculture, and industry. Without its practical experience, students are at a disadvantage to fully comprehend the subject matter leading to a lack of innovation and progress. This trend can be detrimental as it limits the potential of students and restricts them from exploring other potentials and opportunities. It continues to perpetuate social inequality as the disadvantaged continue to move forward without proper resources and skills. This foundational component of higher educational preparation would begin placing tangible value of knowledge more in line with its value through utilization challenging the status quo and perceptions on education and the benefit it creates for everyone at the local and global levels.
PROBLEM SOLUTION
In this region students dream of reaching the university level of education at the University of San Carlos, any university level for that matter. Here entrance exams are difficult and heavily influenced in the areas of the sciences and mathematics. Most expectations fall short due to lack of opportunities in student’s foundational preparation. In the developing country of Guatemala, at their highest and respected educational institutions, they place a magnitude of importance in the field of sciences. Why?
The fields of chemistry and biology have made significant contributions to human progress, from developing new medicines to improving agricultural practices. However, there is still much work to be done. In the area of medicine, for example, there are many diseases that still lack effective and developing new therapies. Similarly, advances in agricultural science are needed to feed a growing global population while minimizing environmental impact. Furthermore, as we face challenges such as climate change and pollution, it is essential that we have a deep understanding of the chemical and biological processes involved. This knowledge can inform policy decisions and help us develop sustainable solutions. By investing in these fields, we can make significant progress towards a healthier, more sustainable future for all. Isn’t that the global message we all hold in our hearts?
Educational centers in rural Guatemala must have the opportunity to prioritize hands-on experience for their students by investment of laboratory equipment and facilities. In today's world, education has become an essential aspect of life and in the poor regions they are faced with access to quality institutions and continuous economic setbacks. It is crucial that educational centers in Guatemala provide opportunities for their students to put theoretical knowledge into practice through laboratory work so they can navigate the entrance criteria and arrive at the university knowing the equipment and materials. This will increase the advancement of students to career professionals and then begin to contribute significantly to the country's poor regions with economic growth by the continuous stimulation of talented youth destined for future leadership.
FINANCIAL OVERVIEW
Gaining a quality education in the rural poor regions of Guatemala presents enormous hurdles many students simply will not be able to overcome. Those that are fortunate to the opportunity of education therefore must have the tools and resources available to maximize quality and the developmental investment to the world we are making. Here is a look into financial investment.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, creating effective learning opportunities and necessary preparations for science education requires careful planning and investment in infrastructure and technology. With the right resources at their disposal, students can develop a strong foundation in science that will prepare them for success in their future endeavors. The community introduction to this laboratory will be at Tecnológico Bethel, ranked highly by the Ministry of Education as a top educational establishment in Sololá and the surrounding local communities. Their diversified level education has consistently demonstrated its ability to provide quality education that prepares students for the workforce hosting a curriculum designed to meet industry demands and equip students with practical skills that are relevant within their local job market.
Furthermore, they are seeking to invest heavily in their laboratory of sciences infrastructure with a state-of-the-art facility to provide a quality conducive environment for learning and to better prepare students as they face the university entrance criteria. Educational advancements of this importance should be dictated by aptitude and growth of opportunity instead of the economic differences of circumstance.
